5 things you must consider when choosing a car removals service in Melbourne

Are you considering disposing of your unwanted vehicle? Prior to selecting a company to dispose of your unwanted car, there are 5 things you must consider to make the process stress free for yourself.

1. Are they guarantying you cash for your vehicle?

If the answer is YES, do not use this company. You might think I sound crazy right, why on earth would you not take cash as a payment? Being paid cash is great however in the car removal industry it is ILLEGAL. In May 2018 the Victorian Government made significant changes to the way the scrap metal industry operates. These changes meant we were no longer able to pay cash when purchasing cars/scrap metal. If a company is guaranteeing cash payments or cash for cars, they are providing you with misleading information.

If a scrap metal company was to purchase your vehicle using cash, both yourself and the company could be financially penalised. For more information visit https://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/licensing-and-registration/second-hand-dealers-and-pawnbrokers/new-scrap-metal-laws

2. Do they hold an LMCT?

LMCT stands for licensed motor car trader and it is a crucial element to purchasing/recycling vehicles. Holding a LMCT allows us at A1 Car Removals to purchase and transfer vehicles through VicRoads without obtaining a roadworthy certificate.

3. Do they have industry experience?

Industry experience isn’t everything right? I have meet fantastic mechanics, carpenters, nurses, receptionist etc. that are new to their industry and are more passionate about the industry, compared to others who have been in the same trade for decades.

This isn’t the case with the Scrap Metal Industry and I will explain why. I started A1 Car Removals back in 2001, over the last 20 years the industry has changed greatly. I have listed a few examples below:

  • Between 2001-2018 It was legal to pay cash for cars, nowadays if a company was to pay with cash their company and the seller would be penalised.
  • The value of cars fluctuates, having industry experience means we are able to value your car accurately and this comes with experience.

These are just a few examples as to why it is important to choose a company with industry experience, at the end of the day having your vehicle recycled need to be hassle free for yourself, selecting a company like A1 Car Removals can make all the difference.

4. Do they cover the removal and transfer fees?

The last thing you want to do is be paid for you old vehicle, then be hit with removal fee for your complete car. You want to make the most money out of your unwanted vehicle, so be sure to ask if there are any hidden fees associated with the service.

A1 Car Removals covers the costs of fees when removing complete cars, this includes the removal and the transfer paperwork.

5. Are they an Australian owned and operated company?

2 years ago, I wouldn’t have included this as something to consider, however covid has changed the way I personally view businesses. If Covid-19 taught us anything it the importance of supporting a locally owned and operated business such as A1 Car Removals.

Thanks for taking the time to read A1 Car Removals first blog post, we recommend considering all 5 of these suggestions when choosing a car removal company in Melbourne. To enquire about having your unwanted car removed in Melbourne contact our team on 0421992090
